A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
While perhaps not at the same level as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the county's top official experienced a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the onset of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The event, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to emulate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, provided by a first responder, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting “6-7” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Annually, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
