Flight operations have recommenced at Edinburgh Airport following a significant technical issue at the control tower grounded all flights.

All aircraft movements were stopped after an IT issue that occurred at about 08:30.

A number of travelers found themselves stranded in aircraft on the tarmac during the disruption.

Flights Resume with Residual Impact

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and thanked passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

However, ongoing issues are likely to continue throughout the day. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been called off, with numerous other services experiencing delays.

Officials had earlier anticipated that a significant number of movements could be disrupted.

"Passengers are advised to check directly with their airline for the current status on their specific flights," the statement added.

Root of the Disruption

The airport attributed the operational halt to an technical fault with its ATC service provider.

Passengers continue to be advised to confirm the details of their journey before traveling to the airport as backlogs are worked through.
