Line of Duty Announced for 7th Series on BBC
The acclaimed police drama AC-12 is officially returning for its 7th installment, confirmed by the BBC.
An upcoming six-episode season written by Jed Mercurio starts production in Belfast in the coming months, according to the network.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."
The previous series concluded in 2021 with a final episode that attracted over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating ever since, but confirmation only arrived this week.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
Series seven begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to production details.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to combat misconduct within the police force.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most sensitive case to date."
New Character and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for busts of criminal networks, is accused of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.
Yet, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the shadows, the teaser suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio said: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had so many followers watch the ups and downs of AC-12 over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a new season."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in the UK was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor described appearing in the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.
Vicky McClure remarked: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is back! Eager to work with Jed, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."
"Pleased with the news and anticipating those unexpected twists and turns."
Show History
The drama premiered in 2012 and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the past ten years, featuring notable actors such as Kelly Macdonald.
The BBC has not yet announced when the upcoming series will premiere.
The finale of season six brought the extended plot about the search for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers indicated at the moment there were no intentions for further series.
However, the corporation confirmed on this week that a new season is now being produced.
