The Latest Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several notable changes:

  • Each team has just eight human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities performed by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking are disabled.

In short, the playlist delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it provides more options for players seeking alternative methods to have fun with the title. But, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 fans are upset.

Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise

"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your competitors," states a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," says a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," while another details all the issues they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this game 24/7. Let them find a middle ground," adds another. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Community Input

All that said, players have valid points to criticize the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of options in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. So this new playlist seems like the player base compromising in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another describes this mode as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?

If the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and acting on feedback. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
