The Red Devils Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her deal, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be building positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
